The RMI CarWise Code is the brand name for the new Code of Practice for the RMI, governing car sales, servicing and mechanical/body repairs. It will be part of a national government backed scheme comprising of Office of Fair Trading endorsed codes of practice for industries including the motor industry, travel industry, and estate agents.

WHAT IT MEANS TO YOU

The Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMI) and Scottish Motor Trade Association (SMTA) maintain a strict Code of Practice (Code) which has been submitted for approval to the Office of Fair Trading (OFT). It governs the relationship between you and the company with whom you do business and also the company's relationship with the trade association.

All members of the RMI or SMTA automatically commit to following the Code. So by using a member or other garage that subscribes to the Code (Member) you can expect a high level of customer service whether you are buying a new or used car, buying parts or accessories or having a service or mechanical/body repair carried out. The Code also governs how the Member handles any complaint you may have.

Full details about the Code including the Independent Arbitration Scheme can be obtained from the RMI Consumer Motorline (08457 585350) or at www.rmif.co.uk. Here is a brief summary of the main benefits you can expect to receive by using an RMI or SMTA Member:
